Nancy Lasseter, Ed.S., LMHC, Wellness Educator

Nancy Lasseter received both a Masters and a Specialist degree from the University of Florida Counselor Education Department in 1984. She has worked as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in private practice since 1987.

Nancy is a certified instructor of the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Program. This program was founded in 1979 by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. Nancy has been teaching MBSR in the Gainesville community since 2004 and at UF Health since 2006. She teaches three MBSR courses per year and loves it every time.

As a co-founder of the UF Health Arts in Medicine (AIM) Contemplative Arts, Nancy supported the effort to bring the healing arts into the healthcare setting. Since 2013, she has offered mindfulness and other stress reduction interventions to patients, family caregivers, healthcare professionals, and the community at large as part of the new UF Health Integrative Medicine team.

Nancy offers a weekly 30-minute Beginners Meditation program at UF Health and a weekly qigong class. The qigong exercise program will explore the core therapeutic ingredients of Tai Chi through gentle, slow movement, mindfulness, and breath-awareness. Nancy received her certification through the Tree of Life Tai Chi Center in Boston, Ma. and is a student of Peter Wayne, Ph.D. of Harvard Medicine School. Nancy also co-leads retreats for experienced meditators three times per year.

Nancy has designed and taught several of her own mindfulness courses, each adapted to suit the needs of a specific population. These courses include a four-week Mindfulness in Medicine course for medical students, a four-week Mindfulness at Work program for private corporations, nonprofits and small businesses, and an online Mindful Healthcare Pro course for healthcare professionals.

Outside of her work with UF Health, Nancy works as founding director of the non-profit Rwanda Sustainable Families. She also plays the ukulele, sings in a local Gainesville band and enjoys organic gardening with her husband Ewen.
